Sophie McPherson

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

M.A., B.A.

About

After initially pursuing criminology and law, Sophie shifted her focus towards mental health, communication, and relational connection. That path, alongside lived experience navigating mental health challenges, led Sophie to becoming a psychotherapist. Her education, passion, and lived experience informs her understanding of how trauma, relationships, and identity shape personal well-being.

Sophie’s approach is down-to-earth, collaborative, and conversational, viewing the client as the true expert in their own life, Sessions blend deep emotional processing with authenticity, levity, and practical tools to foster self-understanding, reconnection, and emotional healing.

Who I Work With

Sophie works with teens and adults navigating identity, trauma, spirituality and religious deconstruction, including its intersections with life purpose, relationships, and sexuality. Sophie also specializes in supporting LGBTQIA+ individuals, clients exploring gender and sexual identity, and those managing OCD, anxiety or neurodivergence.

Many clients come to therapy working through complex relationship dynamics, perfectionism, people-pleasing, boundary-setting, or challenges surrounding self-esteem and body image. Sophie’s focus is on creating an affirming, secure space where clients can bring forward the most tucked-away parts of themselves, feeling fully validated, supported, and constructively challenged.

Clinical Framework

Sophie’s work is relational, humanistic, and trauma-informed, drawing from an integrative blend of evidence-based modalities tailored to the individual:

  • EFT: To deepen emotional awareness, process core feelings, and understand relational attachment patterns.

  • IFS & Gestalt: To explore and integrate internal parts with curiosity, acceptance, and compassion.

  • CBT & ERP: To offer practical tools for cognitive reframing and provide evidence-based strategies to reduce anxiety.

  • Humanistic-Existential: To facilitate existential meaning-making, personal growth, and authentic self-exploration.

  • Attachment-Focused Therapy: To understand how early relationships impact your current sense of security and connection.
